HandoverKey Docs
Your secrets, quietly handed over — only if you go silent.
What is HandoverKey?
HandoverKey is a self-hostable, open-source digital legacy platform. You store encrypted secrets in a zero-knowledge vault. If you stop checking in, a dead man’s switch kicks off a handover flow — delivering cryptographic key shares to the trusted successors you chose. Decryption happens in their browser. The server never sees plaintext.
Zero-Knowledge Vault — Every secret is encrypted with AES-256-GCM in your browser before it leaves your device. We store only ciphertext.
Dead Man’s Switch — Configurable inactivity timer (30–365 days) with graduated email reminders and a 48-hour grace period.
Shamir’s Secret Sharing — The master key is split into N shares. Only a quorum of your chosen successors can reconstruct it together.
Self-Hostable — Docker Compose included. Run it on your own infrastructure — you own your data.
